Gresford is one of the nicer places to work in the borough and one of the more awkward. The plots around the village are established, often with fifty-year-old boundary fences, big beech and oak close to the line, and gardens that fall away towards the Alyn. None of that is a problem, but it does mean you can't just turn up and slap slabs down.
The usual answer here is levels. A sloping garden gets terraced with sleeper retaining walls so you end up with a flat patio at the top, a step or two down and a usable lawn below, instead of one long tilt nobody puts a table on. Where roots are in the way we work around them rather than cutting through and killing the tree.
Fencing in Gresford is nearly always a replacement rather than a new run, so it comes with taking the old one out, digging out concrete lumps left by whoever put it in last time and getting the line straight again. We set posts in concrete and take the waste away with us.

Can you build a patio in a sloping Gresford garden?
Yes, and it's most of what we do round there. The garden gets cut into levels, held with timber sleeper or block retaining walls, and the patio goes on the flat area with the fall running away from the house.
It's more groundwork than a flat plot, so it costs more, but you get a garden you can actually put furniture on rather than a slope with slabs on it.
There are big trees on my boundary. Will that stop the work?
Usually not. We'll work the design around the root plate rather than trenching straight through it, and post positions can be shifted or set in shallower, wider bases where roots are in the way.
If a tree is protected or in the conservation area, that's worth checking with Wrexham County Borough Council before anything starts, and we'll flag it if we think it applies.
Do you replace old fencing as well as install new?
