Double five-bar gates in Marchwiel

Rotten, broken gates taken out and a matching pair of timber five-bar gates hung in their place.

The job

What we did in Marchwiel

The old gates had been there a long time. One had rotted through at the rails and was hanging off its post; the other had come apart completely and was propped against the wall. Neither could be closed, which rather defeats the point of a gate.

Both came out along with the old fittings. The new pair are timber five-bar gates in the same farm style, hung on galvanised hinges with a drop bolt into the drive and a latch between the two leaves to hold them shut.

They suit the setting: a rural entrance with a stone wall and hedges either side. Left as they are they'll silver off over time, or they can be stained whenever the owner wants the colour back.
