Composite decking and balustrade in Abenbury
Old timber decking replaced with charcoal composite boards and a matching balustrade.
The job
What we did in Abenbury
The original timber deck was past saving. Once boards start going soft underfoot it is usually the frame that has failed rather than the surface, and patching the top of a failing frame is money thrown away.
We stripped it back and rebuilt, then laid charcoal composite board with the correct expansion gaps. Composite moves with temperature more than timber does, and leaving it those few millimetres is what stops the boards lifting or squeaking in summer.
A matching balustrade was fitted around the raised sections. Being the same colour family as the boards, it reads as one built structure rather than a deck with a handrail added afterwards.
