Turfing and drainage in Marchwiel
Heavy clay dug out, soakaway crates installed and premium turf laid over a free-draining base.
The job
What we did in Marchwiel
The lawn here was failing because of what was underneath it, not the grass. Heavy clay holds water at the surface, so the ground stays saturated, the roots drown and the whole thing turns to moss and mud over winter.
We dug out the clay and installed soakaway crates to give the water somewhere to go. That is the part that actually fixes the problem — laying fresh turf over undrained clay just produces a nicer-looking bog a few months later.
With drainage in and a proper root-zone built up over it, premium turf was laid and rolled. It now drains rather than ponds, which is the difference between a lawn you can use in March and one you can't.
