Composite decking transformation in Tan-y-Fron
A tired timber deck stripped out and rebuilt in composite, with integrated lighting and aluminium balustrades.
The job
What we did in Tan-y-Fron
The existing timber deck had reached the end of its life. Boards were soft in places and the frame underneath had been sitting too close to damp ground, which is almost always the real cause rather than the boards themselves.
We took the lot out and rebuilt the frame properly — levelled, sat on solid bearings, ventilated underneath and joisted at the right centres for composite board, which needs closer support than timber. Getting that right is what stops a composite deck flexing or bouncing later.
The finished deck is composite board with aluminium balustrades and lighting wired into the structure. It needs washing down occasionally and nothing else: no staining, no sanding, no annual weekend lost to maintenance.
